GCA Centre / Fellows' Home: Libraries, Function Rooms, Bedrooms, and Garden
The Global China Academy Centre is also known as the Fellows’ Home. In principle, it is open, free of charge, to GCA Fellows only for short-term academic visits. Fellows and their accompanying family members may use the Fellows’ Home free of charge for up to one week, in line with the Fellowship Benefits framework.
The Global China Academy Centre is situated in Northwest London. It sits just inside the green belt that encircles London and is away from the immediate hustle and bustle of traffic. Within a few minutes’ walking distance from the Centre, there are the Mill Hill Golf Club, Moat Mount Open Space, Moat Mount Outdoor Centre, and Scratchwood, an Ice Age oakland. Although it is 10 miles from Central London, several commuting options are available (see Visit us). We offer free local pick-up and can also arrange transportation to and from airports. Please schedule your visit in advance by reaching out to us (Please complete ‘Contact Us’ form for any requests at the end of the GCA homepage).
The GCA Centre or Fellows’ home features a library with over 6,000 books, function rooms, several bedrooms with en-suite facilities and a garden, see more details below:
- Function rooms (large meeting room can accommodate 20 people, small meeting room for 8 people, both equipped with screens and projectors)
- Library (5 in total, varying sizes)
- Gallery
- Dining area
- Bedrooms (9 units/rooms in total: 3 suites with kitchenettes and bathrooms, 2 double rooms with private bathrooms, 2 double rooms with shared bathrooms, 2 single rooms with shared bathrooms; 6 rooms with coffee/tea making facilities; 2 studios have washing machines, and an additional laundry room is shared; all rooms have free Wi-Fi, screens for streaming TV are available upon request)
- Garden (suitable for hosting parties day or night, unaffected by weathers)
- Use of the communal kitchen, function rooms, library, laundry room and garden requires reservation
- Free parking available in the front driveway and nearby.

There are 9 bedrooms: 3 studios: one with a double bed (top), one with two small twin beds (bottom), and one with a single bed (middle) each.

2 double bedrooms: one with a king-size bed (top) and one with a small double bed (bottom), each with an en-suite.

1 twin bedroom (top), 1 double bedroom (bottom), and 2 single bedrooms, all with a shared toilet and shower room.


Parties or social gatherings may be held by prior arrangement only and must comply with house guidelines and local regulations.
Policy Update Notice
- The Academy’s Fellowship, internship, and volunteer frameworks have been reviewed and updated in line with current governance and compliance standards.
- Accommodation is no longer provided as part of volunteer or internship arrangements.
GCA Fellows’ Home Policy
1. Short-term Academic Hospitality for Visiting Fellows
- The GCA Fellows’ Home provides short-term academic hospitality for visiting GCA Fellows during brief academic or scholarly visits to the UK.
- It is designed to support intellectual exchange, dialogue, and scholarly interaction, and does not operate as residential accommodation.
2. Purpose and Nature of the Fellows’ Home
The Fellows’ Home is intended to offer temporary hospitality only, comparable to a guest room or visiting scholar facility at a university.
- It is not a place of residence.
- It is not provided as a form of remuneration, benefit in kind, or support in exchange for services.
- It is not part of any employment, internship, or volunteer arrangement.
Any stay at the Fellows’ Home is strictly short-term and clearly time-limited.
3. Eligibility
Use of the GCA Fellows’ Home is limited to: GCA Fellows during short academic visits related to Fellowship activities.
The Fellows’ Home is not available to:
- Interns or students
- Volunteers
- Staff or contractors
- Individuals providing services to the Academy
- Individuals seeking accommodation in connection with work, study, or volunteering
4. Duration of Stay
- Stays are normally limited to a short visit of up to one week, in line with Fellowship hospitality arrangements.
- Longer or ongoing stays are not provided.
All visits are arranged in advance and for specific, defined dates only.
Governance and Compliance Statement
Hospitality at the GCA Fellows’ Home is provided solely as part of short-term academic exchange.
It does not constitute:
- Residential accommodation
- A housing benefit
- Payment or reward for services
- An employment, internship, or volunteer benefit
The Academy’s current governance framework does not provide accommodation to volunteers, interns, or individuals in exchange for contributions or services.
5. Practical Arrangements
Use of the Fellows’ Home is subject to availability and practical arrangements agreed in advance.
Visiting Fellows are expected to:
- Make independent arrangements for accommodation outside the defined hospitality period
- Comply with house guidelines during their stay
- Treat the Fellows’ Home as a temporary academic hospitality space, not a personal residence
6. Support and Engagement
The Academy welcomes academic collaboration and engagement from scholars and friends of the Global China Academy. Individuals who wish to support the Academy’s mission may contribute in a variety of ways, including:
- participating in academic or public events;
- offering expertise in advisory or editorial roles;
- providing voluntary support in clearly defined programmes that are organised through established Academy frameworks;
- making financial or in-kind contributions that align with the Academy’s charitable purposes.
Such support is entirely separate from the use of the Fellows’ Home and does not provide access to accommodation, nor does it involve any exchange of services for hospitality.
