Professor GU Yueguo FGCA

Professor GU Yueguo 顾曰国教授 FGCA obtained an MA with Distinction in Language Studies and a PhD in Pragmatics and Rhetoric from the Department of Linguistics and Modern English Language Lancaster University, UK. He was also awarded a Certificate with a Mark of Distinction from the Sino–British Summer School of Philosophy by the British Academy and the Chinese Academy. He is Research Professor of Linguistics in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Executive Dean of the Institute of BeiWai Online Education and Head of Contemporary Linguistics Department, The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Between 2004 and 2011, he was Special Professor of the University of Nottingham.
Prof. GU is co-Chief Editor of Contemporary Linguistics (national) and Advisory Editor of Journal of Pragmatics and Text (international journals), and Pragmatics (the International Pragmatics Association Journal). He has published prolifically in Chinese and English since 1982. He is Advisory Editor of a monologue series of the Semantics/Pragmatics Interface, with Elsevier Science, Netherlands; Chief Editor of a monologue series, Contemporary Linguistics and ELT in China, with Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press; Advisory Editor of Journal of Foreign Language Teaching and Research (national); and a standing member of both the Executive Board of the International Pragmatics Association and the Consultation Board of the Chinese Linguistics Association. He is also A. K. C. Wong Fellow of the British Academy.
