Professor HOU Shiyuan FGCA

Profesor Hao Shiyuan 郝时远教授 FGCA and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His research primarily focuses on Marxist ethnic theory, ethno-national issues and policies, both domestically and internationally, and ethno-national history. Since 1982, he has been the director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the editor-in-chief of the journals Ethno-National Studies and Journal of World Peoples Studies. His leadership roles include serving as president of the Chinese Ethnological Society, the Chinese Society of Ethno-National History, the Chinese Society of World Ethnology, and currently, the president of the Chinese Society of Anthropology. In 2012, he was honored as a foreign academician by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Regarding his education, he studied Metallurgical Machinery at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Beijing Iron and Steel Institute from 1973 to 1976 and earned a master’s degree in history from the Institute of Mongolian History at Inner Mongolia University between 1978 and 1981.
He has authored, co-authored and edited more than 30 academic works, and published more than 250 academic papers and review articles in various academic journals and newspapers. Selected books include
